Did the iPhone have any effect on the smartphone market?

The dominate smartphone platforms in June 2007 were:  (a) Windows Mobile; (b) the Palm OS; (c) Symbian; (d) BlackBerry.  Of these, only RIM’s BlackBerry continues – the Palm OS is gone, Windows Mobile is gone and Symbian is on its way out.  There was also “proprietary” operating systems made by carriers primarily, but those were not driving the sale of smartphones.

Without a doubt, Apple changed smartphones forever with the release of the iPhone in June 2007.  It is amazing how far things have come in 3 1/2 years.  Below are some pictures of what smartphones were available at or around the time of the iPhone’s release.  All images were found at the Internet Archive using The Wayback Machine or where indicated.
