For all of the wonderful features that Google’s Gmail offers, sending messages quickly is not one of them. I send a substantial amount of email each day and the time I spend watching completed and sent message actually leave adds up. It simply takes to long to me and the time seems to be increasing.
Gmail Labs has a workaround for the problem: send mail in the background while you do other things. The feature is Background Send and you can have it in your Gmail right now by going into Setting>Labs and enabling it.
I have used it for a couple of days and it is nifty: I hit send and move onto something else. Much more efficient.
The credit for my discovery of this feature goes to Gina Trapani who mentioned it on the This Week in Google podcast.
