Thomas the Tank Engine is 250 MB on Verizon 4G LTE

I bet you didn’t expect to read about Thomas the Tank Engine on this blog! Well, its only for the purpose of giving you an idea how fast Verizon’s 4G LTE data network is chewed up by streaming video.

This morning I stream 26 minutes of Thomas the Tank Engine (for my 21 month old son) through Netflix, on the iPad 2, using a Verizon Samsung 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot.

The streaming and picture quality was excellent, no stuttering or stopping. In 26 minutes of streaming, the video ate up approximately 250 MB of data on the network. My monthly data allotment is 5 GB so that is about 5% of the monthly allotment.

From this experiment, I learned two things:

1. Thomas eats up the data quickly at Verizon 4G LTE speeds; and
2. Thomas is a “cheeky engine.”
